Atty. Gemma Parojinog, Director for Human Rights Advisory Office of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR), Philippines

Dir. Parojinog has been with the Commission on Human Rights of the Philippines for more than 16 years. A home-grown lawyer and human rights advocate. She rose from the ranks and have served the Commission with commitment and passion, as is expected from any person believing in the importance and value of respecting the rights of all and protecting those most disadvantage and vulnerable.

She has earned her Master of Law, major in Human Rights at the Hong Kong University (HKU) in 2012 and was part of the International Visitors’ Leadership Program (IVLP) of the Embassy of the United States of America in 2013. She also served as a Fellow at the Office of the High Commissioner on Human Rights (OHCHR) in 2019, working for the strengthening and accreditation of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRI), similar to the Commission on Human Rights, around the globe.

As Director for Policy Advisory Office, she oversees the engagement with the legislature and other government agencies on relevant human rights measures. Her Office is also in charge of coordinating with different international human rights mechanisms. And finally, her Office has a research arm that will make sure the proposals, advisories and position that the Commission will take are evidence based and rooted on the issues on the ground.
